Symmetry drawing worksheets

Half the picture is printed and half is missing, with a dashed mirror line down the middle. Only symmetric subjects are offered here: on a subject drawn from the side there is no correct answer, so the exercise would be unfair.

What is a draw the other half worksheet?

A draw the other half worksheet, also called a symmetry worksheet, prints one side of a picture and leaves the other side blank with a mirror line between them. The child copies each shape across the line so the two halves match.

Animals

Sixteen drawings made it into this set, chosen by mirroring each one and keeping only those whose two sides match. That is why the butterfly, the sun, the panda and the skeleton are here and the fox, the car and the shark are not. On each sheet the left half is printed and the right half is a blank box beside the dashed line.

The penguin, the sun and the strawberry have the fewest lines and make a good first try. The skeleton is the hardest: every rib has to come back out at the same height on the other side. The butterfly and the spider sit in between, since their legs and wings repeat the same shape.

A small mirror held upright on the dashed line shows the whole picture, which helps a child check their half when they finish. Folding the sheet along the line and holding it to a window works too.

For more practice comparing shapes, the grid sheets use the same drawings in a different way. Children who enjoy symmetry often like the pattern ideas on things to draw when bored.
