How to Print

Every tutorial has a free printable step sheet: one page, with all the steps laid out in order, so a child can draw away from the screen. Printing it takes less than a minute. Here is the reliable way to do it.

Step by step

1. Open any tutorial and click "Download the printable step sheet". The PDF downloads instantly, with no sign-up.
2. Open the PDF and press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac).
3. Set paper size to A4 or US Letter. The sheet is built to work on both, so pick whichever is in your tray.
4. Set scaling to "Fit to page", or scale to 100% if your paper already matches. Both give you a clean sheet. Avoid "Shrink oversized pages" and custom zoom levels, which is where cut-off lines come from.
5. Keep the orientation on portrait. The step sheets are all portrait, and letting the printer choose landscape is the other common way to lose an edge.
6. Leave margins on "Default" or "Normal". The sheet already has a safe margin built in, so setting margins to "None" gains you nothing and can confuse some drivers.
7. Print in black and white: choose "Black and white", "Grayscale" or your printer's draft mode to save ink. Everything on a step sheet is line art and reads perfectly in grey. The red step lines still show up clearly as darker lines.

Paper tips

• Regular copy paper (75 to 90 g/m²) is perfect. Kids sketch guide shapes lightly and rub them out, and copy paper erases well.
• Slightly heavier paper (100 to 120 g/m²) is worth it if the drawing will be coloured in with felt tips, which can bleed through thin paper.
• Avoid glossy photo paper. Pencil does not grip it and an eraser will smudge.

Something looks cut off?

Nine times out of ten it is the scaling. Set it to "Fit to page", check the paper size matches what is in the tray, and check the orientation is portrait. If the problem persists, tell us which tutorial it was and which printer you used. We test every sheet on A4 and US Letter, but printers have opinions.
