Drawing worksheets

Seven kinds of printable, all built from the same drawings. Pick the one that matches what you are teaching: copying, proportion, symmetry, tone, depth or writing.

Which worksheet should I print?

Use the step sheets when the child is learning to build a drawing from shapes, the grid and tracing sheets when the problem is proportion, symmetry for mirroring, and shading or perspective once the outline is no longer the difficulty. Draw and write paper is for pairing a picture with a sentence.

How to draw worksheets How to draw worksheets A drawing tutorial on a screen is not much use at a desk. These are the same step drawings laid out as a worksheet: the steps run along the top and the rest of the page is blank, so the child copies them with a pencil instead of watching. 35 printable sheets Grid drawing worksheets Grid drawing worksheets Grid drawing teaches one idea: stop drawing the whole animal and draw only what is inside one square. Each sheet puts a small gridded picture at the top and a bigger empty grid below it, so the copy comes out larger than the original. 35 printable sheets Drawing practice sheets Drawing practice sheets Tracing is the step between copying and drawing. The left half of each sheet carries the finished drawing printed very faintly, light enough to trace over with a pencil. The right half is empty, for the same drawing done without help. 35 printable sheets Finish the drawing worksheets Finish the drawing worksheets Each sheet stops the drawing about halfway: the guide shapes are down and the detail is not. The finished version sits small in the corner, so the child can see where it is going without copying it line for line. 35 printable sheets Symmetry drawing worksheets Symmetry drawing worksheets Half the picture is printed and half is missing, with a dashed mirror line down the middle. Only genuinely symmetric subjects are offered here: on a subject drawn from the side there is no correct answer, so the exercise would be unfair. 16 printable sheets Shading practice worksheets Shading practice worksheets One page that covers the whole of basic shading: a five step value scale, hatching, cross hatching, stippling and blending each with an empty square to copy into, then the sphere, cube, cylinder and cone to shade twice. one printable sheet One point perspective worksheets One point perspective worksheets The sheet carries a worked box with every guide line running to the vanishing point, then the same horizon and the same point again on an empty half for the student to try it. The worked box is drawn geometrically, so its back face sits exactly on the guide lines. one printable sheet Draw and write paper Draw and write paper A drawing box on top and six primary ruled lines underneath. The ruling is the three line kind an infant classroom uses: a light top line, a dashed midline for x-height and a solid baseline to write on. one printable sheet Art sub plans Art sub plans Four lessons you can leave for a substitute, each one page to print and each needing nothing but pencils. Timed, sorted by grade band, and every sheet is on this site already. one printable sheet Things to draw Things to draw The hardest part of drawing is deciding what to draw. This is the whole list, grouped so you can skim it: animals, nature, food, fantasy, vehicles, everyday objects, faces and pure pattern. one printable sheet Drawing idea generator Drawing idea generator Press the button and it gives you one thing to draw and one twist to draw it with. It runs in the page, needs no account and works offline once loaded. one printable sheet Drawing prompts Drawing prompts Twelve cards to a page, cut along the dashed lines. Each card names something to draw and one condition to draw it under, which is what turns a subject into an exercise. one printable sheet Easy things to draw Easy things to draw Sorted by minutes, quickest first. Easy here means few decisions, not few lines: a spiral has hundreds of lines and one decision, which is why it sits near the top. one printable sheet Things to draw when bored Things to draw when bored Every idea here needs a pencil and nothing else: no reference photo, no ruler, no special paper. The margin of a notebook is enough. one printable sheet
